Happy Father's Day!

I wanted to take a minute and honor all of the fathers out there today.  Happy Father's Day!  In a day and age when responsibility and fatherhood aren't taken seriously and it's hard to find movies and music that honors good fathers, it is very important to take the time and let those good fathers know what a wonderful job they are doing.  I am very blessed to have grown up with an amazing father and wonderful grandfathers in my life.  Each of them have been loving and devoted to their families and have been great role models for all of the young boys in our family.  I'm proud to call each of them my family and to know that my son will grow up having strong and loving men who are good fathers and good husbands to look up to.  It is important for our society to point out the good men and hold them up as the examples and role models for young men, rather than glorifying those men who live selfish lives, use and abuse women, and run from the responsibility of fatherhood.  Those are not good men, and they are not fathers.  I wish to extend my love to all of the fathers out there - biological or not, particularly the ones who strive to be good fathers and who are there to love a child.  I also have respect for those men out there who reach out to children and strive to be a good role model, even if they do not have children of their own.  It is men like that - who lead a life of responsibility and love - that raise their sons to respect women and to make a difference.  Let us take a moment to applaud them!  Too often we take for granted (I'm guilty of this) all of their hard work and their equally wonderful, yet different, way of parenting.  Sometimes it is far easier to be quick to criticize what they don't do or what they do that we don't like, but it is good to take a step back and appreciate the good men that they are and all that they do.

If it wasn't for my amazing father and my wonderful grandfathers, I might not have had the standards I did and chosen a great husband like John.  It is because of their example that I was able to recognize that John was a good man and would be a good father and husband.  And he has definitely proven me right!  I love John's relationship with God, me, our son, and others.  He is a good man and my son and myself are blessed to have him in our lives.  Just as we are lucky to have my dad and my grandfathers who are amazing men, and John's father and grandfathers who are also good men, in our lives.  My son should grow up to be a respectful and loving young man because he is surrounded by wonderful examples of amazing men.  And of course, we should honor the greatest examples of an amazing father and a great man - God the Father and Jesus Christ.  Thanks be to God that we have His guidance in a world that doesn't always appreciate what is good! :)  So, to all the good fathers out there: thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you do and I hope you each have a wonderful day!  To everyone: please take a moment today to honor a father out there in your own way.  :)  A special thank you to the fathers in my life: John, my dad, my grandfathers, my father-in-law, my grandfathers-in-law, uncles, and all of my other family and friends who are fathers!  We love and appreciate all that you do!

Also, I would just like to throw out there that Father's Day originated in 1910 in Spokane - my hometown! :) And it all started with a woman. :) Read about it here.

I agree with you! What a wonderful blog and you are a lucky woman! I have come across a lot of those 'bad examples' and John is definitely someone Johnny can emulate. I really liked this post!
