Reflections on King

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?"  -Martin Luther King Jr.

I had the best intentions of posting yesterday about Martin Luther King Jr and all the wonderful dreams he had about the world.  But life was busy yesterday, unfortunately.  I wrote my senior thesis in college (religious studies degree) on Jesus and nonviolence & love.  I connected the biblical Jesus' message with real life examples in the world, and the two major examples I discussed and dissected were: Gandhi & King.  King had so many wonderfully thoughtful ideas and philosophies about compassion and nonviolence and how we can use these to truly become free in this world.  I didn't really learn to appreciate King for his ideas until my senior year of college when I accepted compassionate nonviolence as a way of life.  I am eternally grateful for the legacy he left, and I hope to use future Martin Luther King Jr days to teach my children of the many wonderful contributions he made to this world.  I hope you all had a very wonderful holiday yesterday as well and reflected on King in your own way. :)

One last note: Happy Birthday to Fr. Jack - today is his birthday! :)  Fr. Jack was our parish priest back in WA; he has been John's priest since he was 12, he baptized, confirmed, and gave me my first communion, he witnessed our wedding, and baptized our son.  He is an awesome priest and we hope that he has a great birthday! :)
