I am so mad right now. I just found out that there are lots of foods that have MSG in them and disguise it behind other names. I also just found out that one of those food items are Goldfish crackers. The very same Goldfish crackers I have been feeding my two year old son by the giant carton since he was old enough to chew solid/hard foods. We eat a lot of organic and all-natural foods in our house, especially trying to keep foods with hormones or artificial ingredients away from our son. We thought Goldfish crackers were fine--we buy the whole grain ones by the giant carton (in fact we have a brand new carton in our pantry right now that I'm not sure what to do with). All this time we have been poisoning our son with MSG and not even knowing it!!! I could punch somebody in the face--particularly those in charge at Pepperidge Farms for misleading consumers to make a quick buck. Shame on them. You should check out these sites if you would like to learn more about the dangers of MSG:
www.truthinlabeling.org
www.msgtruth.org
www.msgmyth.com
The medical problems associated with MSG is nothing to scoff at--there are some very very serious side effects associated with this artificial ingredient. I would encourage each and every person to research the dangers of MSG.
Now that I realize that MSG can be hidden in basic food products, I will have to go through everything in our pantry and find the other hidden culprits. I am so very angry right now I can barely think straight!!
On top of this I also found out today that the "organic" milk we have been buying for our son is questionably organic. Apparently it ranks so low on the list of organic milks and is involved with so many controversies with it being tainted with hormones that it shouldn't be trusted as organic milk. This milk is Horizon Milk for anyone out there that is interested. We have been buying exclusively Horizon Milk with DHA for our son for a long long time and now I will be switching to one of the organic milk brands that is ranked one of the highest. It just makes me angry that the USDA organic label can be applied to brands that continually fail inspections.
All this time I have been trying to protect my son from these harmful things and I've been deceived into thinking that I was succeeding. I will be carefully researching food choices in the future because I don't want this to happen again. It should not be this ridiculously difficult to get natural food that is safe and healthy for our children. From now on I will be buying the Annie-O's organic cheese crackers exclusively (after some research to ensure it really is organic!!) and proven safe organic milk. Right now I am off to bed to seethe some more over this awful awful betrayal.

Since going gluten free 3 years ago, I have become a pro at reading labels. Its a blessing in disguise.
Stupid chemicals.
You're a good mama for caring so much about what your little one eats. I understand, because I spend SO much time protecting my babies. Its kind of frusterating to watch others feed their kids junk.
*high five mama!*
Thanks for understanding, Tia! I try the best I can with Johnny, but it seems like the world is trying to sabotage me. Sometime you should give me tips on things to avoid on food labels. :) High five back to you!!
Maybe I should be more concerned about what's on the label, but I just can't get past the fact that my grandson is not getting his GOLDFISH!!! Your Dad is extremely upset and says he is going to mail him junk food and goldfish and address it only to him. It is a FEDERAL offense to open someone elses mail, so just keep that in mind! Love, Mom :)
